Default Help with B/C scoring

My buddy shot a decent deer in PA and I am trying to help him get an approximate Boone & Crocket score. The score-sheet on the internet mentions 3 different spreads (inside spread, outside spread, and spread from tip to tip). In the actual summation column it says to use only the inside spread (unless it is bigger than the antler length which it isn't). My question is why even measure the tip to tip spread and outside spread if it doesn't count in the summation. Anybody know this stuff. Thanks.

Also, my buddy shot a 10 pointer (5 x5, including brow times ). I presume I understand correctly that only 4 circumferences are measured, and that the last circumference between G4 and G5 is not included.
