too much of a risk of getting it in the jaw or something. i've taken one head shot. my first year of hunting, i had a doe that i mortally wounded and i finished her off with a head shot. instant death. leaves a nasty looking wound. if im finishing anything off anymore its a neck shot. a nice buck i'll finish off in the boiler room so i dont ruin the cape. head shots are big no no's.
I necked a doe a few years ago dropped her in her tracks, to finish her off I shot her in the head with a .308 at about 10 feet, I dont know about a nasty looking wound just had a hole about the diameter of the bullet on one side of her head and a hole maybe just a bit bigger on the other side. wasn't really all that nasty other then the blood spatter all over my face and clothes and that its eye balls popped completely out of their sockets. for now on the finishing head shots will continue to be the first shot or im standing back alot further then 10 feet.
