A good many yrs back i took a doe while walking in on a afternoon hunt. I had my stand on my back and that stand seemed to weigh a ton! I was walking in on a creek bed area that that run along a hardwood ridge. As i came to the edge of the hardwoods this doe and a smaller deer jump up right in front of me and ran up the ridge. I just stood there watching as the two deer stopped at the top of the ridge. They act like they really did not no what was going on? They then turned and started walking right back to me. I did not think they would walk as far as they did. I was standing right out in the open! The big doe keeped walking to me but not looking right at me. I just held my bow in front of my face and when she got to what i thought was around 25-30yrds I drew my bow and just waited thinking she would bust me at any min. But she turned broadside instead so when she dropped her head i took aim putting my 30yrds pin low on her chest and let it fly! I nailed her right behind the shoulder. She only ran about 30 yrds before falling within sight. The other deer did not see no reason to stick around after that. I could not believe it. I never even had time to hang my stand.
