Personally I usually don't filed dress my deer, unless it's been a while since I shot it and it needs to be done. I'll just take it home, dress it out and throw the carcass and guts away at the house. Usually in a pit we cover later, or in the river for catfish.

Usually with whitetail a stand will get your scent away from them.
However, I've killed just as many on the ground as a stand.
