Was a big change of plans this afternoon. Wind didn't switch and found out my brother-in-law was coming to hunt for his doe this weekend. I promised I would help him as he is new to hunting. Unless he shoots one tomorrow, no buck hunting for me with bow this weekend.
Since the wind didn't switch and was no good for my bow spots that haven't been tromped but rifle hunters, I grabbed the 270 and hit some really open areas. Found two bucks standing over a doe that wouldn't get up for them. She just layed on the ground. After stalking them for an hour and having a 3rd buck come slinking by me at about 20 yards, I ran out of cover but had closed the gap to 80 yards. Guesstimated the bigger buck to go 140 and shot him when he turn giving me a slight quartering to shot. He dropped like a rock.
Would have been very close on my guesstimate but he had one busted tine. Still a very good buck and was quite please with him and the stalk. That was fun as always.
The 270 get cleaned and put away now. Will carry the bow but not really looking like I will get to do any serious buck hunting till next weekend.
