Don't give up, late season is a good time to bag a buck. They still are interested in does that come in late but the best way to hunt them is at a good food source. They will be trying to build up their fat reserves for winter that they have depleted from rut.
I have been hunting but not seeing anything big with bow. With 3 days left to fill my rifle tag, I went out tonight with the 270. This area is hard to get in to bow hunt. It is a big bedding area and the bucks don't leave it till dark but do wander around in it during the day. Passed a 70 yard standing broadside shot on a very nice 6 pt. Kicking myself for doing such a dumb thing but would really like to get him with bow once rifle season is over or the next couple nights if the wind is right. He is in an area only I have permission for so hoping he doesn't wander in the next couple days. Probably live to regret it but this buck is only 4.5 years old at best and actually would love to see him get another year. He is a 150 Class buck now. I will take him with bow if I can get him within 30 yards but it will be tough to do.
Tomorrow I will be bowhunting for sure in the morning in a different area. I might just camp out all day if I see a lot deer moving in the morning in this area. If not and it sounds like the wind will be right, I will go after the 6 pt with bow. After watching him work the bedding area this afternoon, I have a plan. Just hope my plan doesn't call for tag soup by Sunday night.
