The short magnum needs a different bolt face being a fatter cartridge. By the time you modify the bolt and re barrel or rechamber you will have wasted money and buggered up a good rifle. Buy a second rifle if you need more power. If all you hunt is deer within normal ranges you don't need more than a 7mm08. Spend your money on a premium scope instead, you won't be sorry.
