hunted for years in the mountains of Colorado with my 300 win mag and 180 grain and it was one elk murdering machine!!! The only thing about the 300 is it has quite a kick. And I had to go to a .270 for the mulies cause I kept blowing the front shoulders out of the other side of the deer. I think the .270 is the perfect rifle for elk, deer, coyotes. If I was hunting bear I'd stick with the 300. The .270 is real nice, flat shooting rifle that I'm sure you'd be very pleased with.
