In hunting over 40 years now in PA, I have to say I have mixed emotions about the deer herd. The public land herd numbers seem to be down considerably. I guess this is due to the PGC want to lower the buck to doe ratio. On the flip side, the quality of bucks is getting better thanks to the 3 pt law.
I have been seeing quite a few less deer than in the "glory" days when groups of 10 or 20 deer would walk by you. Now I only see groups of two or three and several singles and that isn't every day. There are days when I don't see anything. The only legal buck I've seen so far this year have been laying on the shoulder of the road. I hunt public land exclusively and my 'hot' areas aren't all that hot any more.
