Isnt' a 300 winmag one of the more powerful cartridges you can get? What else would you need for elk a 50 cal BMG snyper rifle? I know a guy that moose hunts with one, so I guess it would work on elk. I was told they will flat out mess a deer up, just too much gun unless it's really long range.

Never shot one though to be honest.
