Default RE: Question for those who have had Lasik surgery?

by23856, one other side effect to be aware of is that it reduces the amount of tears your eyes produce
I also suffer from this side effect at night when I'm sleeping. Each morning I wake up and my eyes are extremely dry so I must put drops in when I first get up. The rest of the day my eyes are fine, no itchyness, no dryness. I never had that problem before the surgery either.
RackLuster, I agree that I've never been able to see as clear with glasses or contact lenses. I still would have gotten the procedure done even knowing that I would experience these side effects, I just don't understand why some people experience them and others don't. I wonder if it has to do with how much tissue they burn away with the laser. Some people get more tissue removed than others and I wonder if this may be what causes these side effects. In my case, my eyesight was absolutely horrible, I've worn glasses since I was 8 years old and have had increasingly worsening vision since then until it stabilized about three years ago (I'm now 27). By the time I got the Lasik done my vision couldn't be corrected to 20/20 with contacts. I had a very bad astigmatism in both eyes but primarily in my left eye which now gives me more trouble (dryness and lowlight visibility).
muley69, I hope I'm not discouraging you from getting the procedure done. In fact, after all the years of contacts and glasses and playing sports and all the other outdoor activity that I enjoy, I would definitely recomend having Lasik done. I know that you have to take the good with the bad, and in this case, the good still far outweighs the bad. Just make sure that when you talk to the Doc, ask him if these side effects are likely in your case and if he can explain things thoroughly to you.
Thank you guys for the responses.
