Hog hunting usually mean up close and personal, so I'd also go with the slug gun. As for the sidearm, you may be undergunned with either one. Hogs usually have very thick hide and the 45 and 357sig just won't have the penetration needed. I'd also suggest a 44mag or bigger with a very heavy bullet. Good luck and be safe.
