The gas ports are a great place to start; normal barrel swabbing won't get them clean enough. Also I have Franchi 12 gauge that won't shoot light loads with any sort of constancy. That may be the problem as well, I have to use heavy loads or work it like a pump with a really small handle, so try that out.
