We tried both, the 30 06 was preffered by out herd. The cutting edge is too expensive and I do not think the deer preferred it. We still use 30 06 some, but use an Agway Mineral Mix

This mix lets you add salt or take it away if not needed to draw the deer in.
I think too much is said about minerals for deer, we use them because they are inexpensive, and may help, but we cannot point to any one thing and say "it was because of the minerals"
