I have used scents but not in the traditional sense..make sense or scents (huh)! Ok I use scents when I rattle, b/c I pick areas very close to bucks bedrooms or deep transition in which I like to rattle. I set up with the wind blowing from the deer to me and place scents in likely areas half moon the up wind side. In some cases I add one directly behind me if I know deer will come or cirlce to that direction, but that is last resort. I generally stick to some sort of hot doe but have also used synthetic BF gland formulas with similar results, the whole point is to distract them from me or my possible scent. While not foolproof as with any method it has bought me several opportunities to judge or shoot deer in the past. I vary the height from licking branch height with BF down to 18" off the ground. For hot doe I wil run 18 to 36"max. I use unscent OB tampons (steal from the wife..hehe) and always remove them following my hunt. In most cases I set up mid day 10-3 to rattle and use scents.

The rest of the time I stick to wind and deep transitions with no notion I exist!
