Default RE: NEED HELP??COULD SUMONE??

My lab went through a 1 year chewing phase that drove me craze (it included things like drywall, a couch, and trim on the outside of the house!). But here are a few things that might help. The second dog we got chewed up one shoe at 9 weeks and that was it. Some dogs are more prone to it then others.

1. Lots of things that are OK to chew on in the area. One thing that work realy well and holds interest is KONG toys! Especialy if your put peanut butter in it. They last forever Raw hide bone work well but I have found that a good chewer can be through one in a day. Tennis balls stick around a long time and hold interest.

2. They make a spray for horses for chewing on wood and such that is dog safe. You can generaly find this at a co-op or farm supply store. IT is more potent then dog supplies and leaves a bad taste in their mouth. The sour apple spray works ok but some dogs like it. Same with cayene pepper some dogs hate it some dogs lick it up. Try a few things on the pool cover and see if anything works

3. You can always try getting a dog kennel for your dog, and putting him in it when your are not home until he grows out of chewing.

4. Also ALWAYS dicipline your dog if you catch him in the act.
