I drove in to the cabin after work, just to see how many deer were in the feilds. Our Farmer neighbor planted a total of 75 acres of corn and picked and chopped the feilds in the fall. We planted about 6 acres of corn, and left it standing. We had decent deer usage on the corn, but as winter has been wearing on, they have been gravitating to our standing corn more and more.

I saw 15 deer in the neighbors picked feild along the road, and drove through the 6" of new snow to the cabin. Our cabin is at the opposite end of the feild as you veiw the picture. When I got up to our feild, I could see a few deer in the corn rows, so I stopped the jeep and got my binoculars out. A deer spooked and decided to leave the feild through the clover feild (to the left in the pic). Just then, it was like bees leaving a hive, I counted 45 before I lost track, as they poured into the open feild and stopped to look my vehicle over. I did not see any antlers, as they should have dropped by now anyway, but I saw many sizes of deer at about 100-200 yds. It was incredible, I wished I had my camera along, next time I will!
When the farm was active, the deer would yard here 20 years ago, but we've not had anything like this since then, and this has been a very mild winter. I expected to see 10 or maybe a few more than that, I still cannot beleive the number!
