if you can't find your arrow or blood at point of impact and you are sure you hit him I would go out there very early and mark the point of impact and just walk the route you last seen him go assuming after you shot you did close your eyes or turn around and count to ten and say ready or not here I come( just kidding ) I think your best bet is to follow the get away route he took your bound to find blood plus if it was getting dark maybe you just missed some blood at impact point.
