RE: how do you grunt in deer?
IME there isn't a technique that is set in stone. Probably the most important thing is not to over call. a grunt every 15-20 minutes is plenty, much more then that won't sound natural to deer.
As far as grunting goes I personally am not a huge fan of blind calling. that is grunting without seeing a deer. It has worked best for me when I see a deer that is moving away from me or if I want to stop a deer that is passing by. For blind calling I prefer to rattle. IME this is more effective but it will ultimately depend on deer density and the buck/doe ratio where you hunt. If the doe greatly out number the bucks calling and rattleing may be futile.
