Williamson County 14 Pointer!
It was late in the afternoon on Sunday October 3rd when this big Williamson County buck made a big mistake. That mistake was walking within 20 yards of Daniel McCollum of Franklin, Tennessee. Daniel, a 22 year old marketing major at MTSU was perched near a group of oak trees that bordered a thicket that this buck called home.
Daniel had first laid eyes on this buck back in mid-August when he was still in velvet, but only from a distance and he did not get a really good look at him. But his extremely long brow tines caught Daniel’s attention. Daniel had placed a couple of trail cameras out in the area the buck was known to roam, but the big buck never once posed for the first picture.
Now arrowing nice bucks is not exactly new to Daniel, who has been hunting for over 12 years. Daniel arrowed two good deer back in 2002. One scored 134 4/8 and the other 125 2/8, but no doubt they will look small on the wall next to Daniel’s latest trophy!
Daniel's latest buck has not been officially scored and will not be until the official 60 day drying period has passed, but he has been unofficially measured at 187 3/8 gross and with a net of 172 6/8 non-typical. The rack measures only 16 3/8 inches on the inside spread but the base of his antlers are 6 inches, he sports 11 inch brow tines, and has 12 inch G2's! Not too shabby for a Tennessee buck who was aged at only 3 ½ - 4 years old by the TWRA. And this Williamson County buck should enter the Tennessee record book somewhere within the top ten non-typical bow kills. congrats to the hunter ...what a buck for tennessee
