Default RE: Official Team "Lucky 13" (13) Thread

I've never seen a bobcat either. Here in PA you have to apply for a tag and only so many get drawn. My one brother was lucky last year and got one. He had it mounted. They are pretty cool.

Double Creek, I read on here somewhere that you haven't seen any deer. That's a shame! Hopefully it is only because of the hot weather. And also I hope that the season gets better for you. Too bad you're not closer or I'd let you hunt here...

Todays report: This morning I set up in my favorite ground blind and waited. The squirrels are terrible! We need some QSM - Quality Squirrel Management!!! About 8 am I turn around to see a doe making her way. I turned around on my stool to get into position. All was fine until I went to stand up and the darned stool creaked. The doe looked at me and took off in a big snort. And it that wasn't bad enough she took three other does with her. I bit my tongue and sat down and waited. An hour later I turned to see a spike trotting along a path. He seemed to be on a mission. Another hour later a very small doe (prob. fawn) came over the hill and almost came into range. She was circling around but then she must have caught a whiff of me. She then ambled back up the hill and out of sight. As I went in for the morning I noticed something on my bowstring. Would you believe a broken strandjust below the serving!!! [:@]

So then I call the archery shop and took the bow in. He said that with only one strand broke that it should be ok. We figured that strand must have been nicked when the serving broke loose. He wrapped some electrical tape around it. He then when over how I shoot and gave me some pointers. Apparently I am 'torquing' the bow and the string is hitting. I have been trying not to 'torque' but it just happens sometimes. Anyway he talked me into some cover scent that he swears by. It is Wildlife Research's Acorn scent.

So, for my eveing hunt I set up in a new spot at the far end of the corn field at the edge of the woods. The wind was at my face and any deer that come out from the edge of the corn had to turn left or right. I sprayed the acorn scent all over the bush in front of me. At 5 pm or so I heard something behind me and turned to see the fox coming up behind me. He came up to 5 feet before he noticed me. Then he took off in a flash. At about 6 a 4 pt. buck came out of the corn came towards me and went into the woods behind me. He should have smelled me but he made no sign. A few minutes after that three small raccoons came in under the bush. The one coon stopped to look at me and decided he didn't like me. Then another coon came up and started towards me. He came within two feet! I told myself that one more foot and he was getting booted That was it for tonight. I have never had animals come up to me like that before so I would say the acorn scent worked. Now I just need the right deer to come in to me....

Sorry to ramble...I just really enjoy my time in the woods. My husband isn't into it so I have to tell it to people who understand

P.S. What do you all think of my string problem?
