Another small piece of advice, every time I have hit a deer with my bow, I watch their tail after I look to see if the arrow hit them. The tail will often times tell you what happened. An uninjured deer will usually raise their tail just as if you had spooked them and they ran off, a badly injured deer will usually not raise its tail and will usually hunch up after the shot. Every deer I have hit with my bow kept it's tail tucked.
