I taught my buddy Chuck to bow hunt, hes using a crossbow this season cause its his first year, and Saturday was opening day. Because of a party harty Friday night, we woke up late to hunt in the marning so we went out for the evening. We got in about 3:30 and set up. He sat on the field edge and I was about 70yards behind him in my climbing stand.
About 7:00, my phone vibrates(I put it on vibrate to keep sound down) and he starts telling me theres 2 does in the hay field and we could put a stalk on them.
I look down and see a small deer coming down the trail toward him. I tell him "sssssssssshhhhhhhhh, theres one coming your way from behind you!" and he hangs up. About 30 seconds later I hear THWACK! and Chuck excidedly shout "GOT EM!"
I told him to come to the tree my climber was in and we pack up. Chuck was shakin so bad he had to sit down and he could hardly hit the buttons on his phone!

We went to his house to get his brother and some more flash lights. We walked back to where he shot it and found a blood trail that Stevie Wonder could follow! Walked about 120yds and there was his first bowkill that he got his first time in a bowstand! I was just as happy about him shooting it than if I would have got it myself. He gave me a huge hug and told me it was all because of me.
His deer was a year and a half old 5 pointer that weighed about 100lbs but by God it was just as much a trophy as any record book buck as far as Im concerned. It was a fairly steep shot and it took out both lungs and unfortunately clipped his stomach which made gutting fun[:'(]
What an awesome end to all those months of working hard teaching him about his xbow and about bowhunting and hanging stands and shooting at targets and answering questions about arrow weight and tip weight and broadhead proformance and broadhead flight and all that jazz!
Man, thats what its all about right there, sharing time with good friends and getting good food to eat for our friends and families
