Pound for pound aluminum is stronger than steel. Unless I am mistaken the stand you bought is rated for 300 pounds. Right? Plus it is rated or certified by an organization. Right?

Why carry 30 pounds for half a mile or more when you only have to carry 20? That stand will safely hold you and a 35 pound backpack!
