Unless you plan on shooting griz. The .30-06 is ideal. As already stated, the ammo is cheaper. Factory loads go from 125 grain (varmit) to 220 (Moose). If you handload you can shoot 100grain - 250grain.

In my yonger days, I had the mentality, more power is better. Now I know it's not necessary. Anything you can take with a .300, I can take with the .30-06. I won't spend as much doing it, and after practicing for a few hours, my shoulder thanks me for it. Actually, I starting using my .243 for deer hunting. My .30-06 is now my Bear / Moose rifle.

In Short - Go with the .30-06!
