I had my chance at the record books a couple years ago and blew it after not practicing proper scent control. A deer that had all of 14 points and I were at a stand-off for two minutes until his sixth sense (or his nose) told him to scoot before I got a shot.
The family and I went out this past weekend to that same spot and low and behold his sign, or that of a deer that's equally impressive, was in the same spot it was two years ago.
Pictured is what I've heard called a mega-rub that marks the western edge of his territory. Just inside this is a great scrape line and the foot print also pictured. Those are 9mm's lined up next to his print making it just over 3 inches long.
How big do you think a deer with a hoof that large is? The mere thought of seeing this deer again, so long as his rack hasn't started to degenerate from old age, makes me nuts.
