RE: poaching
I have only read the origional few posts not the whole thing. So forgive me if I'm repeating what has already been said.
I saw once on t.v. (I think) where a game warden would take road kill deer to a needy family. The dad had left and mom had several kids. The oldest son @ 10 yrs. old maybe. Would shoot some small game or turkey during the off season on their own land. The game warden overlooked the fact that the boy was doing this as long as it was on their property.
I see no problem if you are on your own land and are killing for food (considering that it is the main staple) as long as you're not looking for a trophy also during the closed season. I, on the other hand, see no problem in asking for help. Heck, I've had to do it (ask for help, that is)when my wife and I first got married. She was still in school and I was paying for school.
Besides, back in the days of pioneers and such did they have open or closed seasons. It was all open as long as you were on your property. I know times have changed and we have grocery stores and what not. I know it's a touchy topic. But, some folks will do what it takes to survive. Some jerks will do what it takes to get a trophy. Not me.
