My boots are neoprene and rubber - set the posts in the ground below some pine trees so its shaded all the time and since they're upside down, rain won't bother them. Being 6 or more inches off the ground will keep bugs from climbing up them and spiders won't want to keep a web in a bottom opening - they'd prefer top opening or side.
