I suggest one of the perennial clovers. There are a number of them out there. I've tried individual varieties and they don't seem to work as well as the blends. As the other crops you mentiioned go dormant, it will stay green longer and you could have one of the only food sources in the area.

Unless you down South it's too late to plant this fall. Check the planting dates and if you're too late plan for the spring.
