I've tried to figure that stuff out and I'll tell you from my expiriences it don't work. You can make a guess about size but not sex. During training my first lab for driving deer spent alot of time reading tracks. I can tell you how old they (this morning, yesterday, or beyond) but gender no. I would go up to the tracks after chasing off a dozen or so and big does leave the same as big bucks except for size. I was told bucks leave the dew claws but I'll tell you they both will in the same mud.
How I learned the time line was to visit the next day and examine.
