RE: Official "Lung Busters" (5) Thread
What a great evening hunt. Tyler tagged along and I hoped I would get another crack at the buck I botched up on. Well I got to see him again but he had to come by Tyler first. Tyler hiding at the base of a tree. He did very good at keeping still as the buck feed in front of him for 15 minutes and got between 15 - 20 yards of Tyler. I was sitting 30 yards away watching the whole thing unfold. I had to laugh knowing what Tyler was going through. The buck finally fed down my way. He gave me a beautiful 25 yard broad side shot. I passed. He got as close as 15 yards and offered another broadside shot. I passed again. Then he wandered off. Quite the experience to say the least.
If you wondering if I lost my mind by passing, I didn't. He is a great buck but is not the one we have sheds to. Very similar but definitely not him.
When I blew the stalk on him the other night, he was still in velvet and the rush of the stalk made him much bigger then he was. His similar rack to the buck we have sheds to didn't help. Tonight I glassed and watched him for around a half hour. He lost all his velvet since the other night and I had a lot of time to study the rack and age of the buck. He is a very nice buck but doubt he would gross much over 135 -140. Very good considering his is in the 3.5 year old range. Definite shooter next year. I hope he survives this hunting season. The buck I have the sheds to went mid 150s last year.
On the way home tonight, I asked Tyler if he regretting shooting his buck after having tonight's experience. He smiled and said " Nope, I am happy with my buck. I was shaking pretty bad on this buck though!! " I had to laugh by the way he said it and knowing exactly how he felt from my first stalk of this buck. Great, great night. Hope tomorrow is just as good.
Got a couple good spots in mind for tomorrow morning and evening. Will let you know how we do. Tyler will be tagging along. Kid is turning out to be a very good, lucky charm for me. Come on big bucks!!
