30-06lover, the Marlin lever rifles and the Ruger #1 single shots can both have scopes mounted. I hear there are other single shots out there, but I have not seen them. The Marlin lever stocks pretty much come with enough drop that they are partial to open sight use. The Ruger #1 takes you higher, up to a scope level, for natural point.

Only a big deal if you are up against something that wants to stand on you and eat your horse.
