Did a little scouting yesterday just before dark. I knew rain was on the way (Ivan) so it would wash any scent away. I found a nice white oak dropping acorns about 40 yards from my number one spot - right at the corner of the corn field. I checked out the far corner of the property which is actually a small stand of trees between an empty field and the cornfield. There are trails all thru this area - lots of oaks, wild grapevine, pignuts etc. And right at the edge of the property was this rub. It is the first one I've seen this year but then I haven't been scouting the areas that I usually find them. Don't worry, I won't go near that area again unless I have to

I've heard conflicting information about the size of rubs. Some say only small bucks make small rubs. Others say any buck can make a small rub. Of course when you find a huge rub then you've got something! Two years ago I found a large rub 3-4 ft. of the ground on a tree that was 1 ft. diameter. That tree was rubbed & gouged to a depth of two inches! I wonder if I can find the pic I took of that...
Anyway, here is a little rub that will get the buck fever juices flowing...
