i also was out on a 9 day deer and elk hunt Labor Day weekend through that week saw lots of deer on the ground and in my stand. One morning it was just about daylight about another 20 mins. before i could see my pins and just of to my left about 25-30 yards i heard some rustling with heavy hoofs, i'm almost sure it was an elk,(maybe climbing the tree stimulated it into thinking i was another elk) i was trying to be as quiet as i could and i when i was reaching back for my bow from the hanger i "ticked" my bow against the hanger, well it backed off a ways and i'm certain it still did not realize that i was up there in my stand for it stood around for a bit snorting , clearing it's nostrils, anyway i heard it move off down below toward a creek, nonetheless ran into more elk on the ground, had a few deer around my stand but nothing where i could see horns, but i'm headed out again this weekend and on into next week so i'll give it another try.
