If you want a Hammer. Then shoot them in the neck with a 270 or a 7 mag..

If you want something to lift them off of their feet , Then use the 416 mags.

I personaly use a 7 mag myself for Elk. Allthough this next year I am going to call upon my 338 RUM. I have to see how it fairs on these big critters.

I have been known to hit Elk in the neck more than once with my trusty 7 mag. To tell the truth the only dir. they tend to go is straight down.
