I know your situation all to well, I will help guide you through making a specialty BP loading that should have plenty of power to take down a deer up to 100 yards which uses only one 50 grain Pyrodex pellet keeping the lightest recoil possible in mind. you will need to get some .50 caliber/.430 diameter bullet harvester sabots, these are the sabots only no bullets, you will also need 44 caliber/.430 diameter pistol bullets, I recommend the Hornady 180 or 200 grain HP/XTP since they are designed for the 44 special and have the best performance at lower velocity between 700 and 1200 fps. I figure this loading in a 22 to 26 inch barrel should have a muzzle velocity between 1200 and 1400 fps which would be the approximate equivalence to the power of a 44 special or 45 long colt shot from a 20 inch barrel, I think that will be plenty of power to take a deer to 50 or 60 yards and with good shot placement even a 100 yard kill is possible.
