Default RE: I need info on making a mock scrape

It's not that hard my friend...the first key is to keep all human scent out of the area. You want to go in as scent free as possible...pick an area that deer travel alot, particularly bucks.....look for secondary trails that may parallel a main trail...choose a spot with an over hanging branch and clear the forest floor of leaves and debris....that's as much as the bucks do except they apply scent to the over hanging branch also known as a licking branch and they urinate in the scrape....

Not too much to it is there...lol

Now, scents....in my opinion they are a waste of money although I have had some success with scents but very, very limited...certainly not worth the dollars I've spent on them....but if you must.....purchase a buck urine rather than a doe urine...especially not an estrous doe urine as it's too soon.....but read this study.,..

In Bowhunter magazine there was a scientific study published on scrapes. In the study several scrapes were made and in these scrapes there were 4 scents applied. The scrapes had still and video cameras set up to capture activity...in the scrapes were again, 4 scents...they were buck urine, doe urine, human urine and new car smell...that's right you read that right.

The results were that the scrapes containing the buck urine and the human urine were visited the most and equally....and they were equally visited by both bucks and does....

now the scrapes containing the doe urine and the new car smell were visited less frequently by eithe bucks and does but equally between the two scents...

What does that tell me....well if I were to purchase a scent, it would be a buck scent..

Today, I make mock scrapes as scent free as possible. When the deer find them, they will apply their own scents...so save your money.
