Default Different poo consistency, a myth?

As we were scouting one day and happened upon a pile of deer poo a friend of mine told me that he could tell it was a buck. I asked how he could tell and he pointed to the pile we were standing by and said that because the poo was kinda meshed together and not real solid seperate pellets. SO the thing was the poo was clearly deer poo but the pellets were meshed together like the thing had the runs a bit (but not completely liquidy). You could still make out the pellets in it.

So is this true? I've never heard anything like it and I've been addicting to hunting magazines for going on 3 years now (not that it makes me an expert)... I figured I would have heard something to that effect. So I pose my question to YOU, the experts [8D]
