I go over my stands in the garage to make sure all bolts are tight, staps are not frayed, no sqweeks etc and the stand is in safe working order before I attempt to hang them. I wear and use a seat o the pants safety harness and climbing system..... makes it possible to to stand on the steps with your hands free to work. I have found a great aide to pull the stand up.. I use a Treestand Versa Hoist made by Rutherford Outdoors

I screw in a step above where I will hang the stand and hang the versa hoist on it with it attached to the stand by the rope and clip provided , it works great and I am not having to lift all the stands weight and once the stand is pulled up and hanging by the versa hoist it leaves me hands free to work on the stand.
