It depends what needs to be done. If you have done nothing, you may want to wait until you can get a soil sample and can add lime. Lime should be applied approx. 6 months before. With that said I have had good success with fall plantings (both with lime pre applied and at seeding) in my area (south central NY). If it isn't a big area or big investment, give it a try. First I would consult with local ag agents, farmers, and/or seed reps.
