It has been awhile since I checked in, but I knew you would still be here.
I am basically a skeptic as well, but I know that QDMA has written some favorable reviews of their products. But like you said, they were tried by the bigger names folks. Give QDMA a call (1-800-209-3337) and see if they know of a 'regular' person that has used one.
My suggestion would be to simply enlarge your plots so they would be easier to work with your tractor, thereby eliminating the need for the smaller piece.
