Default Prepping arrows to be fletched

I've been fletching my own arrows for a couple years. I've not had a problem with my feathers falling off (knock on wood), but I'm simply curious as to what people use to clean the shaft before applying the feathers/vanes. I've been using rubbing alcohol, but I recall watching a hunting show recently where the host insisted on using another product. Darned if I remember what it was. He recommended it on brand new shafts as well. Just got me to thinking about what others use. Thanks!
