I went ahead and used the epoxy putty. I oiled the barrel before installing the grip. After about 30 minutes of set I pulled it back with a little difficulty. Presto, the mount was bedded to the barrel but can now be taken off with minimum trouble. My only concern is the jack screw and nut holding the front of the mount in place.
