for more coarser haired animals [deer, bear, boar, ect.] use a dry cloth, or old rag. for more fragile animals [antelope, fish, birds, ect] use a feather duster. they are very soft and not much presure is use to "sweep" the dust off. you should dust your mounts at least once a year. A mount that is taken care of will last almost forever.
