RE: what are the chances?
I have likely seen 2 deer that would qualify for B&C. Unfortunately it was not during hunting season. My uncle saw one last year that would likely net over 180. There are quite a few big deer around the area, but they aren't easy to get. Poachers/road hunters keep them fairly nocturnal and the large forested areas and swamps provide lotsa cover.
The land I hunt on has huge rubs on 3" (or larger) diameter trees every year, -some that start at about ankle or knee height on the tree, and go to my neck height on the tree (I am 5'9"). However in 3 years of hunting the area I haven't caught a glimpse of more than the huge rubs and large tracks. A buck scoring around 150 and weighing close to 300 pounds was shot on this property 3 or 4 years ago. A neighbours son told me he saw a monster buck on the alfafla field on this property that he says is much bigger and certainly a lot wider than a 172 net typical deer shot in the area 15 years ago (we have both seen the mount, so I asked him to compare it to that deer). I have scouted extensively this summer and have got a much better grasp on the area. Hopefully my luck changes in November and I at least see the big one!
A 194 typical was shot last fall about 15-20 miles from where hunt. 4 non-typicals scoring over 190 have been shot within 15 miles of here in the last 12 years.
