A guy I know shot a doe around 9:30 am and it went down within sight. He let it lay, hoping something else would come by before he took lunch. He got out of his stand around 11:00 and when he flipped the doe over on her back to gut her "she started kicking like a mule and almost took my head off" he said. He promptly creased her neck with the next shot killing her. He said he will never again take it for granted that an animal is dead. I just poke 'em.
