I don't think all you pop gun guys have used a 243 very much on deer.Have taken deer out to 300 yds with one and its no pop gun.I don't hunt with it much anymore because I like trying different calibers.
I have all three 243,7/08 and 260,all are remingtons,to me I think the 260 is just a tad better accuracy wise than the 243 0r 7/08,and it sure works on deer with 100 to 140 gr bullets.
which would I choose between the 2 I would take the 7/08 because it is very accurate and can shoot light and heavy bullets.But if I had my chooice between the three I would have to go with the 260and a 120 gr bullet.
