In other words, all you lack is finishin' up and you'll be done?
That illustration is the one I do. The whip finish. Just be sure to wind your backwraps in the same direction you were winding your serving wraps. If you were winding away over the top of the string, then make your backwraps by winding away over the top of the string. Otherwise, your backwraps won't unwind as you try to finish off.
OR
Take about a 10" piece of bowstring thread and use it for your loop. When your about ready to finish your serving, lay the loop over the serving, leaving enough loop to stick your serving tool thru. Wrap 15 turns or so over the base of the loop, then run the serving tool through the loop. Pull on the tag ends of the loop till you snug the running line of the serving thread to the base of the serving. Cut the serving thread and lay aside your serving tool. Be sure and leave at least 1 1/2" of tag. Pull the loop through the serving, which will bring the tag under the serving and lock it in place.
Either way, you should leave yourself about 1/2" of tag end sticking up from between the wraps. Take a match or lighter and melt that tag down flush with the serving wraps so it won't come undone.
It's a lot harder to try and explain that it would be to show you how it's done.
