RE: New rifle suggestions...?
I've been looking in both Sako's web site and Beretta's catalog, and I don't see anything indicating a 6mm PPC (I see a "6.5x55" - probably not the same, right?) Based on the obscurity of this cartridge, it sounds like shooting it might be a bit expensive, and limited to few manufacturer/grain options.
But if the .25-06 is a flat-shooting, high-accuracy, light-recoil option, then maybe that's the way I should go.
Does anyone know a good resource to study-up on specs of various ammos? ...like what the bullet rise/drop are at various yardages. I saw a good article in Guns and Ammo that listed specs for the .270, the .270 WSSM, and the .30-06 (the .270 WSSM was definitely the best all-around) but it didn't include the .308, .25-06, .243, .22-250, or the .223.
I'd be interested to know which is the flattest (assuming that the flatter the round, the more accurate it is at various ranges when it's sighted in at, say, 100 yards). Also, it a flat-shooting round a funtion of a large cartridge and a small bullet, or is there more to it than that?
Sorry for all the stupid questions, but I'm new to this and I'm very interested in learning as much as possible and getting off on the right foot!
Thanks again!!
