Boy, you guys are something else. Was it hunting season or Archery season when he shot the deer. Probably Yes, did he shoot it in the no no area, the neck, NO, he hit it in the shoulder. How is that totally unethical?
Here is why. IMO it's a hunters duty to take the most lethal shot possible
every time. It's that simple.
When you deliberately take less than the best shot possible, as Len admitted he did, IMO you are being disrespectful of the animal. It makes no difference if it's hunting season or for game control. If you can take a shoulder shot to see what will happen, why not a gut shot or neck shot to see what will happen? It's not the same, obviously, but it's a slippery slope and one I don't believe anyone should start down. It's a bowhunters responsibility to take EVERY animal as quickly and cleanly as possible. Those are the ethics I was taught.
I'm not Len's Mom. He can and will continue to do whatever he personally feels is right and ethical. That's his business. I'm not telling him what to do, I'm just posting an opinion. That's what boards like this are for. Each person decides for him or herself what to do in the end.
